Most art historical depictions show Christ carrying the cross, but I was drawn to the physical and spiritual weight of Luke 9:23 and wanted to show an everyday person choosing that path. This piece reflects on what it truly means to take up your cross daily, a commitment made not in grand gestures, but through silent sacrifice, resilience, and personal devotion.
Merging physical texture with spiritual discipline, the artwork explores the visceral weight of faith in action. By focusing on the strain in the back muscles, the rough grain of the wood, and the tension of the bound ropes, the piece translates the abstract cost of discipleship into a tangible, human struggle.
